Thank you to everyone who attended and watched my State of the Health System address yesterday.
As Helen Keller said, “The world is moved not only by the mighty shoves of the heroes, but also by the aggregate of the tiny pushes of each honest worker.”
Together, all of our tiny pushes will propel us forward to create the future of health care through discovery.
Below is a video recording of the 2011 State of the Health System:
I’m delighted that we have found the next chief financial officer for our Health System. Paul Castillo, a Michigan native who has been a financial leader at Pittsburgh’s largest health system for more than 15 years, will join our team on November 7 and will lead efforts to ensure our Health System’s ability to remain financially healthy despite very challenging economic times. His appointment is pending the approval of the U-M Board of Regents.
At UPMC, the academic medical center affiliated with the University of Pittsburgh, Paul helped the flagship Shadyside Hospital through its merger with UPMC’s Presbyterian Hospital and led the implementation of many new systems for financial data and health information.
He joins us just in time to help lead the MiChart initiative as it approaches its first implementation milestone in February and to assist in the planning and rollout of initiatives related to our strategic planning efforts.
I’m especially looking forward to bringing Paul on board quickly because it will allow Robin Damschroder, who has served these past seven months as interim CFO, to assume her new position as associate director for operations and clinical services in the office of the chief operating officer of the Hospitals & Health Centers.
Robin has done an incredible job as interim CFO since Dave Morlock left in February. She didn’t miss a beat when taking on this role and we have greatly benefited from her expertise, perspective and leadership.
I’d also like to thank our CFO search committee team, which was ably chaired by Doug Strong: Maria Ceo, Deborah Childs, Tony Denton, Margaret Gyetko, Jay Hess, Benjie Johnson, Timothy Slottow, Quinta Vreede, Andrew Zukowski, Safia Al-Kharsa and Natasha Arnold.
